Philanthropy
Ronald Reagan Alzheimers Foundation
Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity's official philanthropy as of August 2001 is the Ronald Reagan Alzheimers Foundation. Voted in at the 2005 Conclave in New Orleans, the foundation is in honor of our most prestigious alumnus. TKE at NC State donates money each year to this organization, as all of our chapters across the nation strive towards a national goal of $240,000.
North Carolina DMV Adopt-A-Highway
The brothers are also involved with North Carolina Department of Transportation's Adopt-A-Highway program. The chapter is designated a stretch of road located within a few miles of campus. Every month or so we head out there to clean up the road of trash and report any vandalism that may have occurred to any road signs.
Spaghetti / Pancake Dinners
The brothers of TKE are always happy to take part in our neighbor's philanthropy events. Zeta Tau Alpha sorority host a spaghetti dinner each semester benefiting Brest Cancer Awareness, while Chi Omega sorority host a pancake dinner benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. It's our pleasure to attend these events withgreat food that benefit great causes.
Rex Regional Blood Services
Although not exclusively a Beta-Beta idea... a few of the brothers get together and donate much needed blood. Every year a group of the guys help the sisters of Delta Zeta sorority make their blood drive a success by donating their blood. The sisters work in conjunction with the Rex Regional Blood Services who are very appreciative of all those brave souls... especially those of us who have O+ blood types.
Clemson Car Bashing
After Hurricane Katrina devastated Louisiana, TKE decided to hold an old-fashioned car bashing benefiting the victims of the storm. Charging $1.00 per hit and $3.00 for 5 hits, NC State students were given the chance to release some tension during exam week by demolishing a car in the brickyard. The event was held the day of the NC State vs. Clemson football game in 2005, hence the title.
Annual Clothing Drive
Every semester the brothers compile a few articles of their old wardrobe. With the number of members we have in our chapter this adds up to quite a bit of material. All that is collected is donated to local churches who then hand out the clothing to anyone that needs it.
Annual Canned Food Drive
Yet another way the guys help out is with the annual canned food drive. Through the coordination of IFC, the fraternities of North Carolina State University are designated different areas of town to collect canned goods. The minimum requirement is 50 lbs. per member which adds up to approximately 2500 lbs. for the entire chapter... that's a lot of food.
